9 Ways to Meet B1 Requirements

 

There are 9 different ways to meet B1 Requirements which will allow you to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain or British Citizenship:

Law 1:
Qualifications covering speaking and listening at B1 or above from the Secure English Language Test (SELT) list in the Immigration Rules, Appendix O. The SELT list is available at:   www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/applicationforms/new-approved-english-tests.pdf

Law 1 Note: Based on Law 1, TRINITY, Cambridge ESOL, IELTS & PTE etc are Acceptable.

Law 2:
Qualifications in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at Entry level 3, Level 1 or Level 2, that include speaking and listening and that have been regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). The qualification must be listed as an ESOL qualification on the Ofqual Register of Regulated Qualifications and have been taken in England, Wales or Northern Ireland. The Ofqual register is available at: http://register.ofqual.gov.uk/

Law 2 Note: Based on Law 2, EDEXCEL, EMD, ASCENTIS, ESB etc are Acceptable.

Law 3:
A National Qualification in ESOL at Scottish Qualifications Framework (SCQF) levels 4, 5 or 6 awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and taken in Scotland.

Law 3 Note: Based on Law 3, SQA Qualification covering at least Intermediate 1/National 4 is Acceptable.

Law 4:
Nationals of majority English speaking countries (Annex A)

Law 4 Note: Based on Law 4, citizens of 16 countries are automatically qualified by birth for B1 i.e. Australia, USA, Canada, Jamaica etc. However, they have to do Life in the UK Test.

Law 5:
Those who have obtained a degree taught in English (Inside UK).

Law 5 Note: Based on Law 5, any degree qualification achieved from an UK University will also qualify, provided you have submitted Certificate of your claim.

Law 6:
Those who have obtained a Bachelor/Master degree taught in English which is equivalent to Law 5 (outside of UK).

Law 6 Note: Based on Law 6,you need prove your claim by providing the followings:
1. Letter from university stating degree was taught in English
2. UK NARIC English language assessment?

Law 7:
Children under 18 and Individuals Aged 65 or older

Law 7 Note: Based on Law 7, If you are under 18 or over 65, no need to do B1 and Life in the UK Test.

Law 8:
Physical or Mental condition which severely restricts their ability to learn English and/or communicate and/or take the Life in the UK test.

Law 8 Note: You need to prove your medical condition. A letter from GP or Hospital is must. No need to do B1 & Life in the UK Test.

Law 9:
Some groups are in a particularly Vulnerable situation prior to obtaining permanent residence in the UK. The KoLL requirement will therefore not apply to applications for settlement from spouses of British citizens or persons settled in the UK who have been victims of domestic violence or whose spouse has died.

Law 9 Note: You need to prove your claim. No Need to do B1 & Life in the UK Test.
